Itinerary from the Spanish Steps to the Trevi Fountain (passing through Piazza Barberini)

This itinerary takes us to the Trevi Fountain, the largest and most famous fountain in Rome. To reach it, we can choose the most direct route or follow a slightly longer route that passes Trinità dei Monti and Piazza Barberini.

Choosing this second option, we climb the monumental Spanish Steps, one of the most scenic in the world, to the Church of the Santissima Trinità dei Monti. With its twin bell towers, the building dominates the square where the Sallustian Obelisk, an ancient Roman monolith decorated with hieroglyphics, stands. From this terrace, the view is breathtaking. Wonderful: the gaze runs along the elegant Via Condotti until it reaches the dome of St. Peter's.

We then continue along Via Sistina to Piazza Barberini, where we admire the Triton Fountain, a masterpiece created by Gian Lorenzo Bernini in 1643. The square also marks the beginning of Via Veneto, a timeless symbol of the "Dolce Vita" of the 1950s and 1960s. With a small detour, it's worth visiting the Crypt of the Capuchin Friars: an evocative and unique place where, in the mid-18th century, the bones of approximately 4,000 friars were used to decorate five chapels with complex and symbolic ornamental motifs.

Finally, resuming our journey from Piazza Barberini and following a stretch of Via del Tritone, we reach the Trevi Fountain. Set like a jewel on the façade of Palazzo Poli, it enchants millions of visitors every year.
